Biography

Daniel Zorrilla's research investigates the shift towards a market-driven model of international aid that prioritizes profit generation over the needs of people in recipient countries, creating significant challenges for NGOs, which are compelled to adapt their structures, operations, and missions to remain competitive. Daniel is also exploring the democratic implications of social rights provision through cash transfers in the United States. This research stems from the belief that genuine democratic citizenship is unattainable when people undergo socioeconomic challenges that hinder their participation in electoral and other political activities.

Before starting his doctoral studies, Daniel worked as a full-time professor and researcher of public administration at the Autonomous University of Hidalgo State in Mexico. He also served as a graduate intern at U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro’s office in Texas, and as a research assistant at the Institute for Economic Development at UTSA. Daniel has received several recognitions, including the U.S. Department of State's Opportunity Funds Scholarship, the University of Texas System Good Neighbor Scholarship, and was awarded the International Award for Excellence by Common Ground Research Networks - University of Illinois Research Park. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Alpha Alpha honor societies, and was recently selected as a Public Administration Theory Fellow by the PA Theory Network.
