Biography
Adam Andresen is a Ph.D. candidate in the Disaster Science and Management program. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Earth Sciences with a concentration in Meteorology and a minor in GIS/Emergency Management from California University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a Master’s degree in Sustainability from Arizona State University. His interests include understanding the societal effects of electrical and water infrastructure failures, household decision-making on home insurance, retrofits, and buyouts.
His Master’s thesis titled “Understanding the Social Impacts of Power Outages: A Case Study Comparison across U.S. Cities”, encompassed a systematic literature review and a case study that utilized a survey to understand what factors played a role in individual household experiences during power outages across metropolitan areas in the United States.
His dissertation focuses on the household experience during power outages caused by Winter Storm Elliott in December 2022 from a survey that targeted two areas affected by the event.
