SPPA100 Introduction to Civic Engagement
SPPA100 allows students to think critically about engagement while considering their own definitions of community and civic engagement, the various ways engagement is practiced, civic engagement on a local level, and how they can incorporate civic engagement into their academic and co-curricular studies.

SPPA400-010 Public Service Project Management
Federal, state, and local governments, along with many nonprofit organizations, rely heavily on project management and project-based work models. Successful project management can lead to more successful outcomes, reduction in costs and time, and aid in overall strategic planning for organizations. This seminar teaches students the tools and skills necessary to work on projects in various public service careers and includes lectures and visits from senior practitioners from various backgrounds and perspectives.

SPPA400-011 Environmental Policy: Climate Change
Earth's geography, from its atmosphere to its core, is impacted by natural and human factors. In this seminar, students will discuss climate change, from pollution to policy, in an effort to understand where we are, how we got here, and what's next. Includes lectures and visits from senior practitioners from various backgrounds and perspectives.

SPPA400-012 Criminal Justice Policy
The criminal justice system comprises public and private stakeholders who influence policy development to incarcerate individuals suspected or convicted of illegal offenses. This seminar will explore the intersection of law and policy and their impact on citizens' civil rights. It will also include lectures and visits from senior practitioners from various backgrounds and perspectives.

UAPP467 Evidence-Based Policy Communication
Explore the different roles researchers, policy experts, the media (including social media platforms), and the public play in the policy process, with special attention to power dynamics. Practically, students will learn how to tell a story with data. This course will draw on insights from political science, sociology, media studies, information sciences, and other social sciences to help students understand and apply strategies for effective, evidence-based communication about policy issues.
