Biden School associate professor Philip Barnes and six students took to Philadelphia for the day during the fall semester as part of an enrichment trip for UAPP110: Introduction to Public Policy. With support from the UD Honors College as well as the Biden School, Barnes and his students traveled into the city from the Newark campus using the SEPTA public transit system regional rail, stopping first to visit Reading Terminal Market, and then the Independence National Park to see the Liberty Bell and visit the National Constitution Center. The group also enjoyed lunch in Chinatown and a visit to City Hall.

Testimonies:
"I really loved being part of the Honors UAPP trip to Philadelphia. I believe that the best part about Honors is the opportunities and experiences that let us see what we are learning through real-world applications. During our trip to the Constitution Center, for example, we got to see some of the very first policymaking in our nation's history, as well as how that impacted the many different communities our government aims to serve."
"The trip was a fantastic opportunity to see everything we learned in class in action. We saw transportation and environmental policy in action on the train ride to and from Philly and learned about policy history at the Constitution Center. The trip was also just a great time with friends. I never thought I would get to take a field trip in college and now I wish every class had them. Easily one of the highlights of my college experience so far."
"It's a great way to learn outside the classroom and get to know your peers. Seeing historic democracy in the making truly connected modern policy and the build-up of our nation in my mind."
"I had never been to Philly before, so I was really excited to experience a new city. Seeing the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the National Constitution Center was a great way to learn outside the classroom and trying authentic Chinese cuisine from Chinatown really rounded out my experience."
"This trip was a great opportunity to experience America's history of the Constitution, the foundation upon which we are able to create and modify our own policies in response to ever-evolving issues."
