Job Title: Business Administrator, University of Delaware
Jissell Martinez (MPA '10) is the Business Administrator for the University of Delaware's Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures in Newark, Delaware. Jissell Martinez is responsible for managing the fiscal affairs of the Department of Languages Literatures and Cultures (LLC) and she serves as the human resources liaison for over 60 faculty and four staff members of the Department. Her responsibilities include office staff supervision, assisting the Chairperson with the operations and management of the department, and serving as a liaison between the Department and the College of Arts and Sciences, Facilities Management, and Procurement Service. Jissell is a voice for Latinos in higher education and serves on Latino/Hispanic Heritage Caucus and as a volunteer for Aspira of Delaware. She was recently appointed as one of the Chief Diversity Advocates for the College of Arts and Sciences.
Prior to joining the University of Delaware, Jissell served as the Senior Fiscal and Policy Analyst at the State of Delaware's Office of Management and Budget for three years where she provided budgetary expertise to agency heads, the Legislature, and Governor with regards to the Judiciary Branch, Department of Corrections, Office of Attorney General and other criminal justice related agencies.
Jissell Martinez is the co-founder of the Delaware chapter of Latinas In Motion, Inc., (LIM) a national nonprofit fitness and running group. The nonprofit fitness and running group encourages, inspires and empower women to get "in motion" and by making fitness an everyday part of a healthy lifestyle. With the goal of combating heart disease, cancer, diabetes and other obesity-related diseases and under Jissell's passionate leadership, LIM Delaware has become the fastest growing chapter with nearly 400 members.
Jissell is the recipient of various awards in recognition of her service and leadership. Jissell received the 2015 State of Delaware's Commission for Women's prestigious "She's On Her Way Award" which recognizes the achievements of young women making a real difference in Delaware. She also received the Community Impact-Motivator Award from Nuestras Raices Delawarwe at the 2015 Wilmington Hispanic Day Parade; the School Director's Citation was awarded to her in 2010 from the UD School of Public Policy and Administration; and the YouDee Leadership Outstanding Female Chapter Leader in 2008.
