We traveled to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to work with corals that see some of the warmest water for coral reefs anywhere on the planet. The presence of these unique reefs and the extensive resources abailable at KAUST allowed us to address numerous vital research questions during our trip.

Mobirise

Acute vs Chronic

We used two different experimental systems to expose corals to thermal stress over differnt time scales. We used the CBASS system (pictured above) for short term stress and the KAUST.

Mobirise

Protected vs Exposed

The varied habitats of the Red Sea allowed us to conduct our studies on species from different habitats. These habitats influence the environmental history and potentially the thermal tolerance of the corals living there.

Mobirise

Branching vs Mounding

We worked with two differnt corl speices representing two distinct morphologies. Acropora is a cosmopolitan genus we chose with a branching morphology, while Porites is a key framework coral on reefs that forms bolder-like mounds.
