Case History
The patient is a male who is 51 years-old. He has been diagnosed with acute leukemia.

Differential
    Neutrophils = 2%
    Bands = 5%
    Metamyelocytes = 2%
    Lymphocytes = 3%
    Blasts = 88%
Questions
1. Sudan black and myeloperoxidase special stains were positive. Auer rods were not demonstrated.
What is the probable type (i.e., lymphoid or myeloid) of leukemia?
2. What do the flow cytometry (i.e., CD13 64%; CD34 18%; CD33 98%, TdT negative) studies indicate?
3. Using the FAB classification system, which acute leukemia is most characteristic given the data listed above?
