In the U.S., the age of majority is determined by local law (i.e., state or territorial), except for purposes of U.S. federal law and the District of Columbia (which is subject to the jurisdiction of the federal government).

 

The age of majority is 18 years old in all states and territories except:

      • Mississippi and District of Columbia (age 21)

      • Alabama and Nebraska (age 19)

      • American Samoa and Puerto Rico (age 14)
