Pratyush hails from Bhilai, India. He is indebted to his grandfather Mr. G.N. Sharma, for inculcating the spirit of Science in him. Pratyush received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from Visvesvaraya Technological University, India in July 2005. He then attended the University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, where he received the Master of Science degree in Computer Science Engineering in September 2008. He received his PhD in Information Systems from the Katz Graduate School of Business where he found a stimulating atmosphere and supportive faculty to explore his ideas.    
  
Pratyush also likes to read and his favorite subjects are Physics, Astronomy and Evolutionary Biology. His favorite authors are Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan and Richard Dawkins. While growing up, he read a lot of books published by Mir Publishers and especially loved Roman Podolny's "Something Called Nothing - Physical Vacuum: What is it?" He also likes to read classic Hindi and English literature and has loved books by Mahatma Gandhi, Munshi Premchand, Leo Tolstoy and Mark Twain.  

He is also an avid sports fan and has played Cricket and Table Tennis for his college team. He learned Karate for a period of 7 years as a child and received his Black Belt in the Shito-Ryu style at the age of 12. He also won 2 Gold and 1 Bronze medals in Karate championships, after which he spent a good amount of time running away from bullies! In addition to Cricket, his current favorite sport is Badminton. He was lucky enough to win a doubles trophy at the Mansfield Open Badminton Tournament in 2008.
