 COURSE POLICIES

  1. Attendance - Lectures, demonstrations, exercises, studio sessions, and critiques are an integral part of the course and require your attendance and participation.  Attendance is necessary for completing lab assignments and receiving instruction and feedback from the professor.  A large portion of your draping and pattern development should be executed during class/studio sessions so I will know be able to assess your pattern making techniques and design ideas.  However, students are expected to spend AT LEAST twice the amount of time spent in class working outside of class on design development, assignments, etc.  You will be responsible for all material covered when you are absent.  Missing more than three classes reduces your final grade by one letter.
  2. Illness - Illnesses should be reported immediately to avoid a grade penalty.  To report and illness, call 831-8709 and leave a message on my voice mail.  When an assignment is affected, a signed statement from your doctor or the Dean is required to receive an excused absence for a project.  Make-up is at the discretion of the professor.  An approved make-up may be given a) orally (with another faculty member in attendance), or b) as a practical exam.
  3. Course Schedule - The professor reserves the right to change the schedule as circumstances warrant.
  4. Academic Dishonesty - Students are expected to adhere to the code of conduct governing academic dishonesty.  Suspected cases of plagiarism, cheating or other forms of dishonesty (as  described in the Student Guide to Policies, e.g., cheating on exams, copying a design) will be reported to the Student Judicial System for appropriate action.
  5. Laboratory Guidelines - Students are required to handle lab sewing machinery, equipment, and dress forms with care and respect.  Sewing machines and irons must be turned off and unplugged after each use.  Students are expected to clean their work spaces and return equipment to storage locations after each work session.  Items left in the lab over a period of several days will be discarded.
  6. Appointments - Please schedule appointments during class/lab sessions or office hours.  Contact me at least 24 hours in advance for appointments at other times.
