EXHIBIT REVIEW
Assignment
Description
á
Visit
one of these two exhibits:
v
Frida Kahlo at the
Philadelphia Museum of Art
v
The Baroque
World of Fernando Botero at the Delaware Art Museum
á
Think
about the following issues:
v
How
is the exhibit organized?
v
What
part of the artistŐs production is highlighted in the exhibit?
v
Did
you have any previous knowledge of the artistŐs works?
v
Is
the exhibit presenting pictures known/unknown to you?
v
How
did this direct access to the works change/confirm your perception of the
artistŐs production?
v
Does
the exhibit design help to establish connections between the works on display?
v
What
are the complementary materials (contextual works, information panels, audio
tour, etc.) that accompany the exhibit? Is this information enough? How
effective are these didactic tools?
v
In
general, did the exhibit change your view of the artistŐs work? How so?
á
Write
a short report addressing some (or all) of the issues stated above. Provide a
short explanation of how the exhibit presents the artistŐs work, and evaluate
the exhibitŐs effectiveness in articulating that particular view. You may
include remarks about your particular experience when visiting the exhibit (for
instance, how your previous knowledge of the artistŐs work may have had an
influence in the way you experienced the visit; how the lighting conditions,
amount of visitors, etc, had an effect on your visit). You can focus your paper
on the general exhibit layout, a particular section, or a number of works on
display that clearly demonstrate your impressions.
