Guidelines to the mid-term

 

 

 

 

The mid-term exam will take place on March 17 in class (WHL006, 12:30-1:45). It will comprise the material covered from Feb. 8 to March 15. The exam will consist of:

 

 

 

·         A slide identification section: you will be shown 5 images that we have discussed in class. You must state exact author, title, and date, and give a short explanation on the particular stylistic/technical features of this piece (10 marks for each image: 2 for each identification item; 4 for the explanation). Each image will be shown for 4 min.

 

 

 

(50 marks in total; 20 min. for this section)

 

 

 

·         One essay question: From two options, you will choose one question. Please, use an essay format for this section (always write full sentences -- point form answers are not allowed in this portion of the exam).

 

Example of an essay question:

 

Using as a point of departure the following paintings:

 

·         Michelangelo’s Delaware Madonna

·         Raphael’s Old College Madonna

 

Compare and contrast the style of each master. Discuss how these paintings reflect broader ideological issues of the particular historical period in which they were created.
