Subject: Ghosty Racer

We were among the youngest Speed Racer fans at ages 4-6 years old. Our gang included Tommy, Jimmy, Scott, Nicole and me. Nicole and I were the only girls. I owned the "Mach 5" a Mustang pedal car that could hold three kids if one sat on the hood. We would go flying down the small hill in our culdesac with whoever was playing Speed at the wheel, and various other characters clinging to the car anyway they could hang on. It was an equal rights group though and "Trixie" also got to drive with great frequency - mainly because it was my car and the owner of the car has the power. Our battle cry was "Ghosty Racer." Being so small, we misheard the words of the Speed Racer Theme as "Ghosty Racer" instead of "Go Speed Racer," so as we flew down the street or ran aroud the swing sets we would sing our version of the song at the top of our lungs, defying all efforts by well meaning older siblings and parents to correct our pronunciation. We all had our internal clocks set to know when to come in and watch our favorite hero and his friends and have a snack to rev up for our own next episode. Just one big question we all had was.... where was the ghost?
