THE NEW CASTLE COUNTY 4-H LIVESTOCK CLUB "Home" Page

Welcome to the home page of the New Castle County 4-H Livestock Club. Come on in, stay awhile and meet some of the members and watch the progress of this years projects.

What's New with the Livestock Club.

The opening photograph shows the basket that the Livestock Club made for this years Basket Auction sponsored  by the Delaware 4-H Foundation.  In the center you can see a mini scarecrow which has become a trade mark for our club because of the Make Your Own Scarecrow fund raiser we hold every October.

The 2000 Livestock Club is gearing up for this years projects. We have recently purchased our market hogs and are awaiting the arrival of the market lambs.  In addition, this year we also will have 2 new feeder calf projects and will be finishing up the 2 market steer projects which were started last year.  Anyone interested in raising a hog or sheep project for the 2001 Delaware State Fair should contact the livestock club at this address or contact the 4-H office at 302-831-8965. We will be showing our animals at the Cecil County Breeders Fair in May and the Delaware State Fair in July.  Our animals will be sold at the Junior Livestock Auction at the Delaware State Fair.  Anyone interested in purchasing a hog, lamb or steer at the fair should contact the livestock club or the 4-H office at the above address or phone number.

We are hoping to publish weekly photos of this years projects in progress so check back often to see how our animals are progressing.  Here are a couple of pictures taken April 1st when the new piglets arrived.

the picture at the top of the page.

The Livestock Club recently had the opportunity to participate in the Cecil County Breeders Fair.  Everyone had a great
time and did very well in all categories.  The steer pictured above (Evander) also participated in this years First State
Jackpot show.  Although he did not win top prize, he and Matt did an excellant job in the show ring!

Check back soon to see new pics updating the growth of our hogs and pictures of the sheep once they arrive and pictures of the feeder calves and beef steer.

During the month of October the livestock club holds it's annual "Make Your Own Scarecrow" fund-raiser at Walther Farm in Bear. Money earned goes towards buying new equipment and feeding the next years animal projects.

We are looking for donations of clothing throughout the year. If you have any long sleeves shirts, pants or hats that you would like to donate please drop us a note. We will gladly make arrangements to pick up the clothing or you can drop them off at the Walther Farm which is located on Walther Road just down the road from the Route 7 and 40 intersection in Bear Delaware.

If you have any additional questions please feel free to send e-mail to the  NCC Livestock Club
