Atmospheric Aerosols

Joseph P. Klems III

Welcome to my website!  I am currently a graduate student working at the University of Delaware under Dr. Murray Johnston.  I graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2007 and have called Delaware home ever since.  Our group is primarily concerned with furthering the understanding of ambient particulate matter (PM).  This includes its composition, how it is formed and how it behaves in the atmosphere.  You can find a summary of the projects I’ve been working on under the Research tab on the left.  Very briefly, I’m interested in making a measurement and maximizing its analytical output.  This usually involves some chemometric methods, such as PMF or PCA, as well as other tools such as wavelet decomposition.  These measurements can be anything from mass spectra to plots of aerosol number concentration and sometimes involve creating new instruments to make the desired measurement.
