Course Requirements:
1. Attend & Participate
– Act Professionally
2. Read DreamReapers, by Craig Canine.
Read two chapters per week and be prepared to discuss in
lecture.
3. Critical Issue Term Paper &
Presentation
a. 5 to 7 page paper that
identifies, describes, and addresses a critical issue in agriculture
b. 10 minute presentation on the
issue on May 10
4. Entrepreneurship: The Ethanol
Project
a. Class Project to determine
the technical, financial, and political aspects of ethanol production:
Would an ethanol production plant be profitable for the investors (each
class member) and would a facility have any impact on grain usage or price
at a local or national level
b. Each class member is a member
of the Blue Hen Ethanol Feasibility Study and each member has $250,000
to potentially invest in the project
c. Class Report of Project due
on May 3
5. Investing in Agriculture: Your Ag/Food
Company Portfolio
a. Each class member develops
his/her own stock portfolio of investments in publicly traded agricultural
or food companies
b. Each class member has $100,000
to invest by Feb. 11, 2002
c. Bi-weekly Reports to report
progress on the Portfolio
d. Person with the most valuable
Portfolio on May 3, 2002 wins a free dinner for two
