All The Myriad Ways

All the myriad ways I'm writing this song

All the myriad worlds it's coming on strong

All of a sudden I'm sensing it's wrong but dimly

What you do say that's for better or worse

When it's only one line in a multiple-verse

Does it profit a man a Sisyphean curse upon him?

On the road to indifference

On the road to indifference

(It's a wide open road)

Me and my friends if you can call them that

Out of duty, utility, or just plain fiat

What if they have something somewhere else that would be better ?

And if there's a God who's even aware

That I am his creature why should He care

When from His point of view I'm barely a speck of matter?

On the road to indifference

(It's a wide open road)

Fell off my high horse, hit my head, blinded by the truth incredulous

The scales fell from from my eyes and I just stared

How I long for the days hunky-dory and fine

When I cared that you were a worldmate of mine

When If I'm hanged if do and hanged if I don't what's the danger?

Don't tell me egocentric reasons not to expire

When at best I might have a weak plural desire

What doesn't kill you only makes you the stranger

On the road to indifference

(It's a wide open road)

And I want very much to get this song done

And I could care less that it won't the best one

All of a sudden I'm struck by modal realism

And judgments aside, does it really appear that

Who lived and who died on some not-distant sphere

Is any more to me than all of the beer not in my fridge?

On the road to indifference

(It's a wide open road)
