Fred Adams: Professor & Chair

Department of Linguistics & Cognitive Science
University of Delaware

I was Born in Belleville, Illinois. I attended Belleville Township High School West (along with Jimmy Connors, the tennis star and Jay Haas, the professional golfer). I studied philosophy at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (with John Barker, Tom Paxson, and Galen Pletcher).

I received my ph.d. in philosophy at the University of Wisconsin (studying with Fred Dretske, Berent Enc, Dennis Stampe, and Elliott Sober). I taught philosophy at Lawrence University, Augustana College, Central Michigan University, and teach now at the University of Delaware. In addition to philosophy, I like hiking in Switzerland and Austria, and I play a bit of golf in the U.S.
