Christopher L. Meehan, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware. His research focuses broadly on the following topics: geotechnical engineering; soil mechanics and soil shear behavior; slope stability; foundation engineering; geosynthetics; soil-structure interaction; soil and site improvement; intelligent compaction; the design of levee systems; and the effects of sea level rise and extreme events on soils.

Prof. Meehan holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical) from Virginia Tech.  He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Delaware, a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a past recipient of the Bentley Systems Incorporated Chaired Professorship at the University of Delaware. He is a Fulbright Scholar, and has also served as the Director for the Delaware Center for Transportation.  He is currently the Vice Chair of ASCE’s Geo-Institute Committee on Embankments, Dams, and Slopes, and is also an active member of the United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research.

Dr. Meehan's research is supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Defense (DoD), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), and the Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA).
