| April
Cleveland is a former high school science teacher with particular interest
in field-based research for students. She received her Ph.D. in Science
Education in May 2001 from North Carolina State University. Her research focused on web-based tutorials to support
teacher professional development.
One of her projects, Water What-ifs, on which she collaborated with Lisa Grable, a fellow graduate student, focused on the collection of water quality data and its use in the classroom to create an inquiry type learning environment. The web site also provides online tutorials for teachers as a form of professional development. Additionally, April's research interests include gender equity in the science classroom, inquiry-based science experimentation, and technology-enhanced learning using web-based projects and MBL and CBL technology.
