Nov. 6-12: UD Observes Veterans Week

Events include annual flag ceremony on Nov. 10
The University of Delaware, fourth among 2017 Tier One research institutions for military friendliness, will recognize American veterans and service members throughout the first full week of November. This year’s Veterans Week programming will include the fourth annual flag ceremony on Friday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. as well as tributes, tailgating, and the inaugural Veterans & Military Ball.
All members of the UD community are invited to attend the following campuswide events:
Monday, Nov. 6
American flag planting on The Green at 5:30 a.m.
Volunteers are sought for the planting of nearly 7,000 flags in honor of Americans who lost their lives during the Global War on Terror. Complimentary coffee and doughnuts will be provided by Wawa of Newark. Interested participants are asked to sign up online by Monday, Oct. 30.
Tuesday, Nov. 7
Veterans’ Town Hall with State Sen. Anthony Delcollo at Kirkbride 204 from 6-9 p.m.
Anthony Delcollo, state senator for Delaware’s seventh district, will moderate a town hall hosted by Blue Hen Veterans showcasing success stories of student/alumni-veterans in business, finance and higher education.
Friday, Nov. 10
Fourth annual Veterans Day flag ceremony on The Green at 10 a.m.
All members of the UD and local communities are encouraged to attend the fourth annual flag ceremony, a stunning yet humble reminder of the sacrifices made by recent generations of American veterans.
Moment of silence for veterans at 11:11 a.m.
Blue Hens throughout the world are invited to share in the moment of silence that will be observed at 11:11 a.m. Eastern time.
Saturday, Nov. 11
Blue Hen Veterans Tailgate at Delaware Stadium from 2-3:30 p.m.
UD student veterans and service members are invited to join Blue Hen Veterans in the first row of the Gold Lot for tailgating fun before the Fightin’ Blue Hens football team takes on University of Albany in the last home game of the season.
Saluting Our Veterans: 2017 Veterans & Military Ball
This inaugural black-tie celebration will be hosted by Blue Hen Veterans at the University of Delaware’s Clayton Hall. All are welcomed to support local veterans in the community at this formal affair. Tickets are available online on Ticketmaster or at UD ticket offices. Proceeds will benefit veteran support services at the University of Delaware.
Sunday, Nov. 12
American flag collection on The Green at noon
Volunteers are sought for the collection of nearly 7,000 flags placed in honor of Americans who lost their lives during the Global War on Terror. Interested participants are asked to sign up online by Monday, Oct. 30.
