2017 John Warren Award presented to Ivet Tweedy
Ivet Tweedy, senior associate director of professional development, selection and assessment in Residence Life and Housing at the University of Delaware, has been awarded the University’s John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award.
The Warren Award, created in 2011, recognizes significant accomplishments and notable contributions in leadership by University supervisory staff and includes a $1,000 gift.
As senior associate director, Tweedy designs and implements overall recruitment, selection, training and professional development for Residence Life and Housing’s staff, which includes 35 professional staff members, five administrative staff members, four graduate assistants and 188 undergraduate Resident Assistants.
Michele Kane, senior associate director of Residence Life and Housing, nominated Tweedy for the honor, calling her “a strong colleague, resilient ally, integral team player and role-model leaders for our department, division and beyond.” Kane praised her “leadership in growing and building a foundation for our department in the University’s strategic plan,” noting that she is “able to bring the strategic initiatives to life in our overall policies and practices.”
Kane also cited Tweedy’s role in implementing changes in response to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and developing new recruitment materials within Residence Life and Housing. She also mentioned the support and advice that Tweedy has provided to countless students.
Also nominating Tweedy was Christina King, associate director of Residence Life and Housing, who said that she helps new staff members transition into the department, offers herself as a resource and “provides guidance and support to all staff members.” King saluted Tweedy’s “tireless efforts to build and maintain departmental culture and offer high-quality development and training to our staff.”
Tweedy came to UD as a complex coordinator in 2003 and previously served as hall director at North Dakota State University and assistant hall director at Concordia College in Minnesota.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in international business, Spanish and Russian studies at Concordia College, an M.B.A. at North Dakota State University and an Ed.D. at the University of Delaware.
Earlier this summer, the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award also was presented to Ravi Ammigan.
