Workshop to help UD community engage with public schools
University of Delaware faculty, staff and graduate students who are interested in developing partnerships with public education can attend a workshop on the subject from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, May 22, in Trabant University Center’s Multipurpose Rooms B and C.
The workshop, titled Education Partnership Academy, is designed to help UD community members become more engaged with the public schools. It is free, but participants are asked to register at this website.
Topics will include the state of Delaware’s public schools, getting started in schools, opportunities for impact and outreach, strategies for involving students, research-focused partnerships and working with teachers.
The Education Partnership Academy is sponsored by the Partnership for Public Education, part of UD’s Community Engagement Initiative, which is planning to hold the workshop annually.
Many University faculty and staff members have had long-standing relationships with schools and communities, while others would like to get involved but are often unsure where to start, the workshop organizers say. The focus will be on helping members of the UD community understand key issues in public education in Delaware and to identify resources for and models of meaningful engagement.
The Partnership for Public Education is a University-wide initiative aimed at strengthening and creating partnerships with Delaware public education.
