HDFS to open new Global Research Series at Gore Hall
The University of Delaware Department of Human Development and Family Studies is initiating a Global Research Series (GRS) that focuses on contemporary cutting-edge scholarship in the family sciences field.
Every semester the GRS will feature internationally renowned scholars who are acknowledged leaders in their areas of expertise. Each scholar will present globally relevant research and also discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in conducting family based research in various international settings.
The first event will take place on Friday, Oct. 28, from 2-5 p.m. in 102 Gore Hall. A reception for speakers and guests will follow from 5 -7 p.m. in the Gore Hall Atrium.
The speakers will be:
• Rosario Esteinou, a family sociologist with the Centro de Invstigations y Studios superiors en Antropologia Social in Mexico City, Mexico, will be presenting on “Parental Guilt Induction and Rejection, and Conformity in Mexican Adolescents.” Esteinou's work is based on the analyses of various major Mexican data sets and will highlight among other issues, the problems around data collection in rural and urban contexts in Mexico.
• Bernhard Nauck, a family sociologist at Chemnitz University in Germany, will speak on “Coresidence in the Transition to Adulthood: The Case of the United States, Germany, Taiwan and China.” Nauk’s work is based on a large multinational study that he has led over the last several years. Nauk will address the challenges of conducting research in multiple country settings.
