Campus housing open houses

Upper division housing areas help first-year students find homes for next school year

Though it seems like the fall semester just began, University of Delaware students are contemplating where they would like to live for the next academic year. Residence Life and Housing is offering two open house dates for upperclass areas.

Open houses are being offered as follows:

• Christiana Towers and Independence complex, Thursday, Oct. 20, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Locations: Christiana Commons and Independence Hall East Main Lounge.

• Central complex, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 6-8 p.m. Locations: Brown Hall and Warner Hall.

“This is a chance for first-year students, or really, anyone who would like to participate, to see the variety of living options at the University,” said Karen DeMonte, associate director of Residence Life and Housing. “Students can visit the upper division areas and start thinking about where they would like to live on campus next year.”

At each location, students have volunteered to show off their rooms to help first-year students see the variety in housing options across campus while meeting some of the community’s current residents and staff.

First-year students can apply to return to on-campus housing next year during the Early Bird guaranteed housing period in October in return for priority in room selection in the spring.

First-year students who do not apply for 2017-18 housing in October can apply for guaranteed housing during the second-year housing open enrollment in February.

Current upper division students were guaranteed housing if they applied by the end of September. Late applicants will be accommodated as space permits.
