Students for the Environment

Hey S4E!

I found a company that sounds amazing for our FUNDRAISING idea...it is called Yachana Gourmet and we can sell organic fair trade chocolate from Ecuador...check out their website: http://www.yachanagourmet.com/fundraiser_faq.htm and let me know what you think!  If anyone else has found any companies or organizations with other fundraising opportunities, let me know (sstolte@udel.edu).  So far, we are leaning towards donating money to scientists in Peru conducting research on the negative effects of mining operations on the environment.  They need funding to travel to the affected sites and to help analyze their work...Sam, our treasurer, was in Peru last winter and has more information on the scientists' situation if you have any questions (snew@udel.edu).

Other news:

LEFTFEST:  October 15th (Saturday) from 12 to 4.  We will have tables and activities relating to Sustainable Lifestyles to educate people on different changes they can make in their lives to reduce environmental impact.  We need people to come help out this Saturday, so email me if you can!  sstolte@udel.edu
Here are the people currently creating parts of our display:

    - Katie Bartling (kmb@udel.edu):  Water Conservation
    - Erin Cord/Zac Lowman (ecord@udel.edu and zl@udel.edu):  Energy Conservation
    - Jess Milligan (jgmill@udel.edu):  Recycling (off and on campus)
    - Meghan Kelly (megkelly@udel.edu):  Fuel efficiency

For KATIE and JESS...there are good resources in the office for your topics...there are "info wheels" about 1.) water saving ideas and 2.) recycling... they are hanging on the grey board on the right of the office in Perkins (Lydia - office manager - found them while cleaning up)

If anyone would like to contribute to a certain topic, please email the people working on it!  For the 5 people above, we will meet before the event on Saturday (so before noon) to get everything together.

We have reserved KIOSKS in Trabant in October (date waiting to be confirmed) and November (probably Nov 9th)  to present topics we are covering this semester to the UD community.  In October, we will be raising awareness for Fair Trade, as it is Fair Trade month.  Hopefully, we will have decided on our fundraiser and received the first shipments to start selling at our events!  In November, we will be presenting information on Sustainable Living and Lifestyles...things that people can do to reduce their impact on the environment, etc.

We will also be joining the Environmental Concerns Committee of ALD and Campus Greens on November 15th for an "America Recycles Day" kiosk in Trabant.
