Chemical Safety Note
Vinyl Ester is one of the most common resin systems used at CCM. It boasts good cure time control by adding various concentrations of the proper chemicals but if mixed incorrectly it could cause an exothermic reaction. To kick off the chemical reaction two ingredients are added; MEKP (Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide) and Cobalt also known as CoNap. These two when mixed in their pure form are very exothermic and if ever working with this resin system make sure you mix one ingredient in thoroughly before adding the other. At left is a video of equa; amounts of these two chemicals mixed.
