PROUD is a registered student organization
that raises puppies for The Seeing
Eye. It is a puppy raisers job to
expose the young dog to as many situations
as possible to prepare them for their
future job as a guide dog, which is
why you may see the animals in class,
Trabant, dorms, or other places around
campus. While puppy raisers are encouraged
to take their puppy many places, the
animals are not yet fully trained
service animals so they are not guaranteed
entry in all public places. The University
of Delaware allows the animals in
most campus buildings and classrooms
with the Professor's permission, but
remember - it is a priveledge, not
a right.
Where do the puppies come from?
The dogs that are raised by PROUD
come from The Seeing Eye, which is
located in Morristown, NJ. The Seeing
Eye is a guide dog school that relies
on volunteers to raise their puppies
in a loving environment until the
dog is old enough to return to the
school for formal training. Volunteers
receive their puppy when it is 7-8
weeks old and typically keep the animal
until it is 14-18 months of age. During
this time period the puppy raisers
give the dogs affection, teach them
basic obedience and expose them to
a variety of social situations. For

Eye visit thier website.
