In 1996, members of the junior chemical engineering class at the University of Delaware recognized the need of a society to honor academically successful students within the department. The Beta Pi chapter of Omega Chi Epsilon was founded and held its first meeting on February 23, 1997.

Since then, Omega Chi Epsilon has had a history of both academic excellence and community service at the University of Delaware. The society consists of active members who recognize the honor of membership as well as the responsibility to give back to the surrounding community and College of Engineering.
