BOZO

One of the greatest things about being a Delaware tuba is being one of the select few to play BOZO! Members of the section change, directors have changed, the University has changed, but the one constant for the past 30 years has been BOZO!!

Bozo originated in 1969 when a yet unnamed freshman tuba brought it to the University of Delaware. At the time the tubas were looking for an identity. When the search for an identity and the song came together a tradition began. In the early years, the smaller tuba section would hop on the back of a flat bed truck and drive from OLD COLLEGE down to the stadium -- the whole way down to the stadium playing Bozo.

Now days, Bozo is no longer played on a flatbed truck. Bozo has become an integral part of Delaware's pre-game tradition, as well as entertainment for the fans during third quarter of the football game.

Part of the Bozo tradition is that is passed by word of mouth and not by sheet music. Bozo has been written down only twice in its UD history but any physical  record of the sheet music has disappeared.
