CONSTITUTION

Group Name Japanese Student Association

Preamble

We, the students at the university of Delaware, do hereby form the organization known as the Japanese Student Association for the purpose of:

promoting mutual understanding among people from Japan, U.S. and the other countries; and, facilitating daily life of Japanese students at the university.

Article I

Name

The organization shall be known as Japanese Student Organization.

Article II

Object

The object of this organization shall be to:

be a place where people can send and retrieve information regarding Japan, U.S. and Delaware; and

participate in international activities as a group regarding Japan.

Article III

Qualifications for membership

Any matriculated graduate student of the University of Delaware who agree with the object and purpose of this organization may become a member.

Article IV

Officers and Elections

Section 1: President

This organization shall have a President with the duties of calling and running meetings and handling day to day affairs.

Section 2: Vice-President

The Vice-President shall serve the role of president if the president is absent, unable to serve the duties of president, or if the president resigns.

Section 3: Treasurer

The Treasurer shall be responsible for all group expenditures and revenues. The Treasurer shall sign any checks written by this organization or for purposes of the organization and maintain all group ledgers.

Section 4: Secretary

The Secretary shall record the events of all meetings of this organization and shall maintain minutes of those meetings. The Secretary shall take attendance of those present at group meetings as necessary.

Section 5: Qualifications for Officers

All officers must be matriculated graduate students at the University of Delaware.

Section 6: Elections

Elections for officers shall be held at least per academic year.

Article V

Meetings

The organization shall meet at least once per year.

Article VI

Bylaws

Section 1: Authority

The organization shall establish by laws to carry out the policies set forth in the constitution.

Section 2: Approval Bylaws

Bylaws and changes in bylaws shall be approved by two-thirds (2/3) approval of those members present and voting.

Article VII

Procedure

The rules contained in Roberts Rules of Order, Revised Edition shall govern the society in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the bylaws or the special rules of order of this society.

Article VIII

Ratification

This Constitution shall be ratified by a two-thirds (2/3) affirmative vote of the membership of this organization and approval of this organization's registration by the Office of Graduate Studies.

Article IX

Amendments

Amendments to the Constitution shall require approval of Two-thirds (2/3) approval of the entire membership of this organization. Advance notice must be made to all members of proposed changes to the Constitution.
