2007-2008 Officers:

President: Wilkey Wong

Email: wxwong@udel.edu

I am a fourth year Ph.D. student in the CDI program and I conduct research in childrens' learning from toys and media. Education is my second career as I started out as a chemical engineer and worked in that industry for over a dozen years. From that experience where I capped my career as a technical director for a $400M plastics and tape company, I bring practical expertise in management and working with administrators, regulators, and other institutional bodies.

I believe one of the things I can bring to the table as president of the EGA is organizational ability. I am also comfortable working with stakeholders to understand their interests and motivations and working for consensus to move projects ahead. In particular, I am working with administration to upgrade our computer capabilities and establish a new graduate student lounge in room 203.

The EGA has been dormant in many respects these last years and it is my intent to revitalize our professional organization. I want to make the EGA a relevant, useful organization that serves the needs of its members. That means providing service that addresses the professional needs of all education graduate students. Our BrownBag on mentoring was but the first activity targeted at the key aspects of graduate and post graduate life.

I look forward to working with you and for you in the coming year.

Vice-President : Aideen Murphy

Research Interests: Philosophy of Education. Philosophical analysis of educational policy. The implications of adhering to egalitarian principles of distributive justice as they pertain to education in combination with limited economic, social and human resources.

What can I add to the EGA?: I think one of the things I can do is speak up and those who know me know that I do that fairly well. So if its someone to represent your interests that you are looking for I think I can do that job pretty well. I have worked on Students Unions at home in Ireland and I think it is important that students have a support network that can effectively liaise on their behalf should the need arise. I also feel that a significant number of international students are graduate students in the SOE therefore it is important to have someone with an international perspective on the EGA committee.

I graduated from Smith College in 2004 with a degree in Spanish Language and Literature. Currently, I am enrolled in the Educational Leadership Masters Program. I am an Assistant Director in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. In my current position I am responsible for a travel budget so I am very familiar with organizing finances. I am qualified for the position and will use all my abilities to make sure the EGA is financially responsible. I am very interested in helping to shape the new future of the EGA.

Secretary: Elizabeth Soslau

As an undergraduate at Drexel University, I was the Philanthropy Chair and Recording Secretary on the Executive Board of Phi Mu Fraternity. During my time as an Academic Coordinator, for the Programs in Rehabilitation Sciences at Hahnemann Hospital I gained committee experience by chairing the Marketing and Recruitment Committee.

Recently, due to my enrollment in graduate school, I have resigned from two volunteer positions. One, I held on the Advisory Board for Need in Deed (a non-profit, based in Philadelphia, PA) and the other was a seat on the Site-Selection Committee at a large urban middle school.

I am also building my committee work skills by currently serving on the Board of Directors for Need in Deed. I firmly believe that my previous and current experiences will enable me to work effectively with the EGA.

I look forward to the opportunity to create new learning opportunities for Graduate Students in the School of Education. I would love to be able to facilitate programs that foster collaboration between students across specialization areas. I would also like to help students increase their integration with the larger research community including professors, research centers, and other available on and off-campus venues. I support initiatives such as brown bags, social activities, peer mentoring, student designed colloquiums, and informal round-tables or panel discussions.

I am excited at the prospect of working with the existing members of the EGA and the students it supports.
