Delaware Parents Kick Off Spring Season With First Annual Chili-Fest
By Roy Collins
The University of Delaware Men's Club Crew Team recently held it's 1st annual Spring Fundraiser. The event, which was attended by Rowers, Coaches, Parents and Team Alumni was a drive to raise money for two new sets of carbon fiber oars for the upcoming Spring 2011 racing season. Held at the UD Boathouse on the Christina River in Wilmington, DE the occasion was a great chance to mingle with all of the fine folks who work to make the UD Men's Club Crew Team possible. The function included on-the-water rowing demonstrations courtesy of the Freshman/Novice Team and their coach Phil Kleiman, dancing, Q&A with current team members, and a Chili cook off which resulted in a tie for first place between Mrs. Lucie McDonald, one the current heads of the parent's association; and Roy 'Royster' Collins, a Senior on the Lightweight squad. This is last time until the main season ending Dad Vail Regatta that the teams and their supporters will be together as one unit.
This season will kick off March 26th with the UD Lightwieghts racing Harvard in Boston, and the UD Heavyweights racing for the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia.
