Delaware Men's Crew Completed Their 1,000,000 Challenge And Are One Step Closer To Purchasing their New Boat!
On Sunday February 5th 2012, the Delaware Men's crew rowed for a total combined distance of 1,000,000 Meters. The Ergathon was held on the north green of UD's campus right near main street. Each rower had to row at least 20,000 meters to reach the goal, coxswains also participated rowing 10,000 meters. Conveniently the event was held during move in day and was greeted by unseasonably warm weather.
Delaware Men's crew is a University sponsored club program with a storied rowing tradition that competes at the varsity level. The coaches are volunteers and the student-athletes pay yearly dues. Over the past couple of seasons, the team has been the most consistent performer, club or varsity, at the historic Dad Vail Regatta---with medals in the Varsity 8 (Silver 2010, Bronze 2011) and Lightweight 8 (GOLD 2009, Silver 2010, Silver 2011) as well as winning the overall men's team point championship at the Regatta from 2008-2010. The Varsity 8 has been ranked in the top 25 in the country both in 2010 and 2011, with the Lightweight 8 in the top 10 consistently as well. In addition, the program has produced several collegiate "All-American" rowers as well as 3 US National Team rowers.
