Delaware Crew Opens Fall Racing at Navy Day Regatta
The UD men's crew was met with pristine weather and rowing conditions on the Schuylkill River as the heavy and lightweight squads opened their fall racing season in Philadelphia.
The first race to go off was the Men's Collegiate Frosh Novice 8+, where Delaware's freshman lightweights placed 7th (14:07.78) and 8th (14:14.26). Navy Men A won the event with a time of 13:10.48.
Delaware's JV eight was the second Blue Hen group to launch, placing 15th in 15:17.69. Navy Men B won the event in 13:02.98.
The next event was the Men's Open/Collegiate Lightweight 8+. In one of the days tightest races, Delaware's 1V finished in 12:41.71, only .55 seconds behind Navy Ltws A who won the event in a time of 12:41.16. Delaware's 2V finished in 6th position in a time of 13:27.82, .99 seconds behind St. Joseph's top lightweight boat. Delaware's 3V finished the course in a time of 13:59.98, finishing right behind the 2V in 7th place.
The final event for the day for the Blue Hen's was the Men's Open/Collegiate 8+. Delaware's top boat finished in 8th place in 13:14.81. Delaware's next boat finished in 19th place in 13:48.43. Penn AC won the event in 12:24.57.
The Blue Hen's next race is the Head of the Charles on October 23rd and 24th in Boston, MA, where many of the best collegiate and national teams in the world will compete in North America's largest regatta.
