Heavyweights and Lightweights Perform Well in Final Head Races of Fall Season

The Delaware men's heavyweight squad closed out their head racing season in impressive fashion at the Head of the Schuylkill on Saturday, October 30th. The 1V finished 5th in the Men's Open Heavy Championship Eight and finished 3rd among collegiate entries in 13:55.04. Penn AC won the event in a time of 12:59.64. The 2V competed in the Men's Open Eight event and placed 17th in 15:09.46. Quaker Rowing Club (University of Pennsylvania) finished first in 13:42.72.

On Halloween, the entire lightweight team traveled to Lake Carnegie to compete in the Princeton Chase. Beautiful, sunny weather welcomed the spectators and competitors, and the Men's Varsity Lightweight 8+ was the second event of the day after the heavyweights eights. The 1V finished in 10th place and seventh among first varsity boats (13:40.710). The 2V finished 21st overall and seventh among second varsity boats (14:25.397), and the 3V finished 28th in 15:11.697.

The freshman lightweights performance was the most impressive of the day, as the first boat finished in 7th place overall among all freshman entries. The first freshman lightweight eight finished 4th among lightweight boats in 14:07.629, sixteen seconds behind Princeton's winning freshman lightweight boat. The second lightweight boat finished in 21st place overall in a time of 14:56.321, which was faster than many top freshman boats from other schools.

The team's final race of the fall season is the Philadelphia Frostbite Regatta on Saturday, November 13th on the Schuylkill River.

The freshman squad will conclude their fall racing season at the Rutgers Fall Classic in New Brunswick, NJ this upcoming Saturday (11/6).
