UD Finishes Strong at Navy Day

Delaware crew opened its fall racing season this past weekend at the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia. With a new course layout and strong tailwinds, UD crews were sure to be moving quickly down the Schuylkill.

The first to take to the water were the Frosh/Novice eights, which consisted of five full eights for UD. The frosh blue hens respectively finished 8th, 10th, 11th, 14th, and 19th out of the twenty crews entered in the event.

The Men’s JV8+ was next, which consisted of many rowers who would be racing again later in the day. The JV8+ rowed to a strong 7th place finish in a time of 13:45.34 over the 4800 meter course.

Less than two hours later, several of the JV rowers were back in action to race in the Lightweight eight event. The Fightin’ 150’s raced to an impressive 2nd place finish, defeating both UPenn (12:41.62) and St. Joe’s (12:45.15) 1V’s with a time of 12:31.64. UD’s lightweight 2V finished 8th, respectively, with a time of 13:15.74.

The final race of the day was the Men’s Open/Collegiate 8+, in which both the heavyweight and lightweight 1V’s competed. Of the 26 boats in the event, Delaware’s lightweights finished 8th (12:41.33) while the heavyweights rowed to a 13th place finish (12:51.94), beating out top varsity eights including Rutgers and Lehigh.
