DESCRIPTION OF SOCIETY AND PURPOSE

Beta Beta Beta is a National Biological Honor Society. Its purpose is "in accordance with the National Constitution, to form an honor society for students of the biological sciences and thereby to stimulate sound scholarship, to promote the dissemination of scientific knowledge, and to encourage investigation in the life sciences" (By-Laws of the Alpha Psi Chapter). New officers are elected at the Spring Banquet for a one-year term.

Tri-Beta provides members an opportunity to interact with other members who are studying the biological sciences. From peer tutoring to water sample collection, Tri-beta members participate in community and campus service. Tri-Beta hosts an annual symposium for undergraduate students, allowing those who have been working on research to present their work in a semi-formal situation. The society holds frequent meetings where Tri-beta's activities and projects are discussed. Many meetings feature a guest speaker who provides valuable information about everything from medical school to field biology. Tri-beta is an excellent source of information and interaction for anyone perusing pre-med, pre-vet, environmental science, or any biological field.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

If you have a 3.0 Science and 3.0 overall GPA and have earned 12 Biology credit hours at the University of Delaware, Tri-beta welcomes you to become a Full Member. If you do not meet these requirements, you are still welcome to join as an Associate Member. To be an Associate member all that is required is an interest in biology.  Regular membership is $50, and Associate membership is $40 (and may be applied to Regular Membership). These fees are one time only, and are sent to the national organization; the local chapter is supported by fund-raising activities and the university.  All BBB Members are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in all Tri-Beta events.

HOW TO JOIN

Induction of new members takes place in the fall (November) and spring (April) semesters. An application form is available online or from the BBB faculty advisors (see below). The prospective candidate must obtain a nomination/signature from their Academic Advisor, after review of their GPA and credit requirements. The signed form and payment is either given to a Linda Dion, a BBB faculty advisor, or placed in the BBB mailbox in Wolf 120. Regular members then vote on the candidates at one of the chapter meetings. After election, the new members are inducted at a fall or spring banquet.
