The Aikido Club
at the
University of Delaware

The Aikido Club at UD gives all UD students and staff the opportunity to experience Aikido -- a martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba in 1925.

"Aikido" can be translated as "A way of coming to harmony with life." AI translates as "harmony", KI as "universal life force" and DO as "way" or "path."

The purpose of executing an Aikido technique is to blend with and subdue an attack without causing harm to the assailant.

Class consists of cooperative practice in which everyone takes turns executing and receiving techniques.

Aikido practice is non-competitive -- there are no contests or trophies. Beginning and advanced students practice with and learn from each other.
The best way to learn about Aikido is to watch or participate in a class!

Many thanks to the instructors from the Aikikai Foundation of Delaware who donate their time to teach the classes!
