Annual Events

ONE: UniteD to Help Make Poverty History

The Student Government Association hosts: ONE- UniteD to Help Make Poverty History in partnership with student organizations UDress, SCPAB, and CPAB, and various other student organizations. Made famous by Hollywood celebrities Bono and Brad Pitt, the event supports the ONE campaign, which is among the newest and loudest voices of young America against extreme poverty and disease. This multi-faceted night is a black-and-white attire event, in which students dress in fashionable clothing to see performances from UD dance and singing groups, a fashion show, and learn about global issues.

FestivALL

Every spring, the Student Government Association, with the essential participation of various Registered Student Organizations, presents FestivALL on the North Green. Festival is an outdoor event that provides RSOs an opportunity to work together and foster inter-group collaboration by showcasing their talents to the entire UD community. In years past, over forty student groups have worked together for the event- with about 3,000 students enjoying food, fun, and entertainment on the North Green. Additionally, all Registered Student Organizations are invited to submit dishes to a pre-FestivALL cook-off competition, called “Iron Chef: RSO Edition, SGA’s Quest for FestivALL Cuisine.” In the competition, SGA and Dining Services sample diverse foods that, if selected, are served in a free buffet at the event. With over 280 Registered Student Organizations on campus with wide-ranging performance capabilities, SGA takes FestivALL as an opportunity to reach out to the entire UD community and create an exciting tradition at UD.

Senior Day

The Student Government Association collaborates annually with Student Centers, Alumni Relations, SCPAB, and several other Registered Student Organizations to provide a free day of entertainment, food, prizes and activities to celebrate our seniors. Although the event is open to all students, seniors are eligible to win prizes ranging from gift certificates to local restaurants to flat screen televisions!

Community Service Projects

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Thanksgiving Food Drive is one of Student Government’s largest community service events. During one day near Thanksgiving break, food is collected and weighed in a multi-purpose room in Trabant University Center. A tally is kept and prizes are awarded for the most food collected. In previous years the food was donated to the Delaware Food Bank. This collection is campus wide and in previous years everyone from Greek life to individual RSOs participated.

Relay for Life

SGA organizes a team to participate in Relay for Life, held in May, each year. In previous years, the goal for the team fundraise was $100 per person.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Alex’s Lemonade Stand is held every year at SGA’s FestivALL. It is a stand where lemonade, graciously provided by Dining Services, is handed out and donations are collected to fight childhood cancer. Other fundraisers such as a raffle or penny wars are held ahead of time to raise extra money for the cause.
