Temporary Housing after Arrival
Three
options are available for new students who wish to find a temporary place to
stay after arrival.
1.
For Teaching
assistants who arrive in July to take ITA classes, ITA provides
temporary housing on campus. It is highly recommended that all
new teaching assistants take this opportunity. More information
should have been included in your offer letter. Or, you can
visit their website at http://www.udel.edu/eli/ita/ita-summer.html.
2.
Usually,
there are quite some opportunities to sublease apartments/housing from some
current students and scholars during the summer. To find out sublease
opportunities, it is recommended that:
ü
Go to
the University of Delaware’s web page—www.udel.edu;
on the right top, you can see “UD&me”; click it and you will see “UD
Classified”; after entering it, there is a “Housing” section, you will find out
available housing options, which are mostly posted by UD students.
ü
Go to
UD’s web page of Housing Assignment Services—www.udel.edu/has/; check out the
specific information about on-campus and off-campus housing.
ü
Join
the mailing list of CSSA, or directly go to http://mail.dcaa.info/c/c?en-iecc@-a
to find recent requests for roommates by Chinese students/scholars/employees
in Delaware.
Since all the housing information is updated frequently, we
are unable to give you specific details such as which place is available and
what are the situations. Therefore, you are strongly recommended to check it
out regularly and contact the relevant people for more information by yourself.
3.
If the
options above don’t work out, CSSA is also committed to arranging a temporary
place for new comers to stay upon their request (email to udcssa@yahoo.com).
The temporary place is usually the living room of some warm-hearted Chinese
students and scholars at the University of Delaware. This is to give new students
a place to stay while finding their own housings/apartments. Remember that you
might need to pay some nominal amount of money to the people who host you, and
you need to work this out with your hosts.
longer-term housing
The
information above concerning sublease opportunities is also good for hunting
for a place to live during the school year. Most of Chinese students and
scholars live in apartments close to campus. Some discussions on our BBS might
be of some help, which can be accessed from our CSSA website. It is recommended
that you visit the house/apartment before making a final decision.
Most
newcomers try to find housing in Park Place, Towne Court, South
Gate, Fairfield or Pine Brook. For detailed direction, please
ask other students in UD or contact us.
We hope this
information will be helpful for you to find a satisfying living place and enjoy
your life in Delaware. We are looking forward to you coming to the University
of Delaware.
