It is easy to publish applications created with PODIUM. There is a runtime version that you can distribute free of charge if your application is also free and you are not using it for kiosking or other administrative purposes; otherwise you must pay a modest fee for a Runtime PODIUM license. And PODIUM comes with an installation tool that makes it easy for users to install and run your application. There are three ways to publish a PODIUM application: on diskettes, on CD-ROM, or on the World Wide Web.
If you plan to publish an application on diskettes, the PODIUM Publisher can streamline the process, save you time, and make your application very easy for the user to install. The PODIUM Publisher works from a "packing list" that you create with any text editor. The packing list tells the PODIUM Publisher what directories and files you want to publish. The PODIUM Publisher compresses and copies these files onto diskettes, prompting you when more disks are needed.
Due to the number and size of the pictures, sound tracks, and video clips in the typical application, CD-ROM has become the medium of choice for multimedia publishing. PODIUM's publication and installation tools make it very easy to publish applications on CD-ROM. Plus, PODIUM has an optimizer that makes applications run faster from CD-ROM.
If you do not charge a fee for your multimedia application and you are not using it for kiosking or other administrative purposes, you may distribute the PODIUM runtime with it for free. However, if you charge for your application, you must purchase a Runtime PODIUM license, as described in the pricing section of this document.
PODIUM's new Intracasting feature makes it easier than ever to publish multimedia applications on the World Wide Web. Simply create your application with the PODIUM toolbox, then use the Intracasting tool to pack it into an intracast that you can mount on any World Wide Web server.
