Biologist to deliver Library Associates lecture June 3
DeLeon’s field of specialization is human genetics, with research interests that include the identification of genes and the mechanisms that cause inherited disorders. She has lectured widely. Publications include voluminous abstracts, data submissions, instructional materials, book chapters and other publications. A member of the UD faculty since 1976, DeLeon also teaches at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine as an adjunct professor. Honors include a National Science Foundation Career Advance Award, Medical Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of the West Indies Postgraduate Award and a Jamaica Teacher’s Scholarship. A member of the UD Board of Trustees since 1992, DeLeon also served as a member of the Institutional Review Board at the Medical Center of Delaware from 1989-92 and was a member of the National Institutes of Health Loan Repayment Programs-Online Review Panel in 2003. An ad hoc reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, DeLeon also serves on the Advisory Board of Archives of Andrology and on the editorial boards of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology and the Journal of Andrology. DeLeon, who received her bachelor’s of science degree with honors and master’s from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, holds a Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada.
